Finding Your Perfect Breast Implants

Once a patient chooses to have a breast augmentation, it might feel like the decisions are over. Planning plastic surgery is a personal choice that each woman must make based on her physical ideal and emotional satisfaction. However easy or difficult it is for a patient to choose breast augmentation surgery, she also needs to consider several factors in getting the results she wants.

Four Choices in Breast Implants

During a cosmetic surgery consultation, Dr. Brantner will discuss the medical procedure, educate the patient about physical limitations before and after surgery, and ask about the patient’s implant choices. Many women find it beneficial to consider their preferences beforehand. Patients must make four major decisions about their breast augmentation surgery. We will discuss size/type today and positioning/scarring next week.

  1. hangers - clothing size after implantsSize of implant. Before scheduling your surgical consultation, research your desired bust size. Dr. Brantner can make suggestions based on a patient’s height and body type, but only you know exactly what aesthetic you want. Find photos of celebrities with your desired breast size whose proportions are similar to yours. Knowing your desired cup size is also beneficial, but keep in mind that the lingerie industry has inconsistent sizing. What is a B cup at one store may be a D cup at another.
  2. Type of breast implant. In order to create a natural, beautiful look, you need to decide what type of implants you want. Saline breast plants are filled with sterile saltwater. If the implant were to burst, the body would absorb the saline from the implant. Saline implants create subtle ripples beneath the skin, which some women find unappealing. The gel in silicone implants feels more like natural breast tissue. If the implant leaks the gel will stay in the implant shell or trickle into the implant pocket, but it rarely collapses entirely. Women with silicone implants should visit their doctor regularly to ensure their implants are functioning properly. For more information about the shape and texture of breast implants, schedule a consultation.

Fast Recovery Facelift

There are plenty of options for patients who want smoother, more youthful skin. Chemical peels freshen the face, Botox and injectable fillers smooth lines around the eyes and mouth, and facelifts correct sagging skin on the face and neck. Patients who ask for a facelift may want the full procedure, or any number of smaller procedures that recontour the face and minimize the signs of aging. Patients who want lasting results without missing several days of work may want to consider an in-office facelift procedure.

Mini Facelift Procedure

prepping patient for facelift surgeryDr. Brantner specializes in an office procedure facelift; that is, a mini facelift that requires no general anesthesia but still provides tangible results. Dr. Brantner performs this minor cosmetic procedure in his office using local anesthesia. The procedure, which lasts about two hours, addresses the face in three parts: the eye area, the mid face, and the neck. A minor incision beneath the eyelashes:

  • Removes excess skin
  • Decreases the appearance of bags under the eyes
  • Removes lines from around the nose
  • Increases the prominence of the cheekbones
  • Smoothes skin, creating a more youthful appearance

Dr. Brantner addresses the neck and jowls by lifting the skin in front of the ear. A permanent buried suture tautens the tough under layer of skin, smoothing wrinkles and sagging skin on the neck. Dr. Brantner removes any excess skin. He can then lift drooping brows with a minor eyebrow lift. Often patients who suffer sagging brows also require an eyebrow lift to improve vision. In such cases, insurance typically covers the cost of surgery.

Recovering from a Mini Facelift

Because Dr. Brantner performs this cosmetic procedure in-office with local anesthesia, his patients can enjoy the benefits of a facelift without the expense, hassle, and recovery time of an OR procedure. Patients take mild, oral medication before the procedure. Most patients are fully functional the following day without suffering “anesthesia hangover.” The skin often bruises and swells, but generally both can be covered by makeup within a week. Patients are back to their daily routine quickly: they may begin exercising 3 weeks after their procedure, and rarely feel any lingering tenderness beyond 5 weeks.

Lifting and Shaping the Breasts

Lifting and Shaping the Breasts

As women age, their breasts begin to lose their shape. Breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, and loss of elasticity in the skin may cause the breasts to sag or elongate, causing self-consciousness or physical discomfort. A mastopexy, or breast lift, is a surgical procedure that elevates the breasts, removing excess skin to firm and rejuvenate the figure. Patients who have breast lift surgery regain the perky, youthful figures that age or life has changed.

Reasons for Choosing Breast Lift Surgery

woman breastfeedingChoosing cosmetic surgery is a deeply personal decision. Undergoing cosmetic procedures should always be about boosting your own self-confidence, not about succumbing to pressure or fitting another person’s ideal. You may be a good candidate for breast lift surgery if:

  • You are happy with the size of your breasts
  • You are unhappy that your breasts have begun to sag or lose their shape
  • Your breasts droop unevenly
  • When unsupported, your nipples fall beneath the crease of your breasts
  • The skin of your breasts is stretched or sagging
  • You are physically healthy

Breast Lift Consultation

Breast lift surgery uplifts and reshapes the breasts, restoring a more youthful appearance. During a breast lift consultation, Dr. Brantner and his patient discuss the surgical procedure and recovery, the desired aesthetic, and current health concerns that may affect the procedure. Some women may choose to have only a breast lift, while women who are unhappy with their breast size may choose to have breast implants or a breast reduction as well. Breast lift surgery firms and shapes the breasts, but it does not affect the size or fullness of the breasts. You should feel comfortable discussing any breast lift questions, preoperative stresses, or clarification of your desired results with Dr. Brantner during your consultation.
