This has left many of us in the tri-cities area are turning to a new breakthrough in fat-melting methodologies, like Coolsculpt and Sculpsure, to banish those extra pounds for good.

But how do you know which one is right for you? Below, we’ve compiled a list of the main differences between the two, so you can make an informed decision for yourself.

How do they work?

Coolsculpt and Sculpture are both methods used to selectively destroy/kill fat cells without harming surrounding tissues. These FDA approved procedures have been gaining popularity, with more and more Johnson City and Kingsport residents using these methods to target problem areas, melt away fat, and feel confident in their body again.

Coolsculpt

Coolsculpt and Sculpture are both methods used to selectively destroy/kill fat cells without harming surrounding tissues. These FDA approved procedures have been gaining popularity, with more and more Johnson City and Kingsport residents using these methods to target problem areas, melt away fat, and feel confident in their body again.

Sculpsure

Sculpsure uses a smaller handheld laser to target fat cells. The practitioner points this laser toward the problem areas, allowing the beams to slightly warm the tissues and kill only the fat cells while leaving surrounding tissues unharmed.

Who is a good candidate?

Coolsculpt

Because Coolsculpt uses a suction device to hold and treat tissue, it is often an unsuitable option to treat both smaller and larger areas. If you can’t pinch your fat, you likely won’t see good results with Coolsculpt. Similarly, if the area needing treatment is larger than the suction cups, you will likely need additional sessions in order to achieve the desired results and to “even” out the treated area.

Sculpsure

Sculpsure, on the other hand, works along the surface of the skin, so whether you have a larger pad of fat, a smaller layer you’d like to melt away, Sculpsure can provide the results you’re looking for, allowing the tending clinician to treat a broader and wider range of areas.

How long are treatments?

Treatment times differ between the two procedures. –

Coolsculpt

With Coolsculpt, treatments can last between 35-60 minutes per session. Coolsculpt can only treat one area at a time; if you’d like to reduce fat from multiple areas, you’ll have to either schedule a longer session or multiple appointments.

Sculpsure

Sculpsure can treat up to four areas in one 25-minute appointment: if you would like both love handles reduced, Sculpsure can melt them away with the same quick treatment session.

Are treatments painful?

Coolsculpt

Coolsculpt’s methods may cause numbness, which can be accompanied by various levels of discomfort. This can be painful for some patients, though not all patients feel discomfort with the procedure.

Sculpsure

Sculpsure, on the other hand, uses a laser that gently warms the area and most patients report nothing more than a warm sensation similar to what you might feel if you put icy hot or tiger balm on your skin. Your tri-cities Sculpsure practitioner can also vary the intensity of the treatment to your comfort level: at any time, if you feel discomfort due to the warming action of the laser, your practitioner can lower the strength of the laser to a point which you prefer.

What is the recovery time like?

Coolsculpt

Coolsculpt and Sculpture patients can both, in theory, return to their normal activities immediately after a procedure. However, Coolsculpting sometimes results in swelling and bruising of the sculpted area, limiting the activities that are comfortable after a procedure. This is because the Coolsculpting suction freezes tissues, blood vessels, and nerves as well as fat.

Sculpsure

Sculpsure targets only fat cells, leaving tissues, blood vessels, and nerves intact. Many Johnson City and Kingsport patients have gone from their appointment to the gym or to work; no recovery time is necessary.

How many appointments will I need?

The number of appointments you need generally depends on the stubbornness of your fat and the treatment area you choose, as well as your individual situation.

Coolsculpt

Coolsculpt typically requires a minimum of two appointments for maximum effectiveness (sometimes more).

Sculpsure

Some Sculpsure patients, on the other hand, only need one appointment to melt away the fat achieve desired results. However, each patient’s situation is different and results may vary widely.

Will anyone know you’ve had work done?

Generally, no. Both procedures are non-invasive and do not leave a scar or other defining mark.

Coolsculpt

Occasionally, the edges along a Coolsculpt treatment can be more defined than the edges around a Sculpsure treatment. This is because the drastic sucking method can’t “blend” fat-loss areas with other, untreated areas of the body.

Sculpsure

Sculpsure’s varying intensity allows practitioners to artfully blend the outer edges of your treated area with the rest of your tissue, resulting in a more natural appearance.
