What is Botox?

Botox is made from Clostridium botulinum, a natural substance found in soil, lakes, and forests. When injected into areas of the face, it acts as a neurotoxin, gently paralyzing the muscles in the face that create troublesome wrinkles and fine lines. With continued treatments over time, those muscles weaken and therefore are able to relax on their own, making it possible to spend more time between treatments without those pesky wrinkles reappearing.

Why you might need/want Botox treatments

Though most people receive Botox injections for cosmetic reasons, there are actually a plethora of uses for this marvel of modern medicine.

Here are just a few of the conditions that Botox can help alleviate:

  • Blepharospasm (spasm of the eyelids)
  • Chronic migraine
  • Strabismus (crossed eyes)
  • Hemifacial spasm
  • Glabellar lines (frown lines between the eyebrows)
  • Canthal lines (crow’s feet)

Live in the Tri-Cities, TN area and suffer or experience from any of the above? Give our office a call today and learn more about why so many local tri-cities, TN residents trust Jim Brantner, MD to help them look and feel their best.

Benefits of Botox injections

  • Removes and eliminates wrinkles
  • Smooths and flattens out skin
  • Eliminates deep creases
  • Rid yourself of “frown lines”
  • Say goodbye to “crow’s feet”
  • Restore your youthful and vital appearance

What age is best to start Botox treatments?

Most people are eligible to start Botox treatments at any point in their adult lives, however, most people find the treatments to be most beneficial after the age of 30.

What to expect

Procedure: Botox treatments are quick and easy, usually taking no longer than 30 minutes. First, we will evaluate your face, determining the problem areas in order to select the perfect points for injection in order to achieve the best results possible. We will then use a series of small injections using a tiny and painless needle to deliver the perfect amount of Botox to each point. The goal is to relax the facial muscles enough to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles while still allowing you to have a full range of motion in your face so your expressions remain natural.

Recovery and results: After your treatment, you will be able to resume most of your regularly scheduled activities as usual, getting on with your busy life while the Botox treatment gets to work on those pesky wrinkles for you. We do suggest avoiding the gym or spa directly after treatment.

You may experience a bit of tenderness or redness near the injection sites, however, most patients find this fades quite quickly. The full results of your treatment will appear gradually over the next week, with full results being visible in 3 to 7 days after treatment.

How long do Botox treatments last?

Most patients find that the results of a single Botox treatment will usually last about 3 to 4 months, with some patients seeing results for 6 months. Once the results start to fade, a quick follow-up procedure will usually start to work immediately. If receiving regular treatments, you will notice that over time the muscles in your face that create these fine lines and wrinkles will start to shrink, allowing the results to last longer with each treatment and making the general appearance of fine lines less noticeable even without additional treatments.
