Rhinoplasty – get the nose you always wanted

Rhinoplasty – get the nose you always wanted

Rhinoplasty, also known as a “nose job” is a procedure that realigns or reshapes your nose. Rhinoplasty is a surgical correction that is made to the structures of the nose. Many people opt to have this surgery done for health-related issues or for cosmetic purposes to enhance their appearance.

The procedure can have a positive impact on your health, appearance and self-confidence. Your face is the first thing other people notice about you, and your nose sits in the center of your face to balance out all of your other facial features.

Whatever your reason for the procedure, Johnson City, TN has a premier cosmetic surgery center that will make you feel like family. The Jim Brantner Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery can ensure that you have an enjoyable experience and quality results that will impress.

Benefits of Rhinoplasty

There are several cosmetic and health-related benefits to having the rhinoplasty procedure, including:

Here you will have an opportunity to help your surgeon understand the reason(s) you are considering the procedure. These reasons could be medically driven, or purely cosmetic.

Your surgeon will set expectations and explain whether or not your goals can be achieved. Together you will work to create a picture of the results you would like with the surgeons’ professional touch.

Many people do not like to discuss their physical appearance, especially if they want to make a change. And while this is a perfectly natural instinct, keep an open mind and ask any questions or concerns that you may have regarding the Rhinoplasty surgery. Remember, your surgeon is there to help.

What is Rhinoplasty? Types of Nose Surgery

What is Rhinoplasty? Types of Nose Surgery

Before we get into what rhinoplasty is, and the different types of surgery that can be done, let’s talk about why people are so interested in it. There are many reasons why someone may want to go through with this type of procedure; some people have breathing problems due to their nose being too large for their face shape or because they have a deviated septum. Others might not like the appearance of their nose and feel that it makes them unattractive. Whatever your reason may be, there’s no denying that rhinoplasty is an amazing way to help you feel more confident!

Happiness is a state of mind that many people are striving to attain. Some believe that happiness comes from their career or the relationships they have in life, while others say it’s about being healthy and happy with your appearance. For some individuals who feel like rhinoplasty procedures will help them achieve this happiness, there are plenty of beneficial reasons for doing so! The following information breaks down what type of procedure would be best for someone who wants to go through with nose surgery, as well as why these surgeries can bring on a more positive outlook in life.

Nose Surgery Types

It is important to understand the different types of nose surgery procedures when deciding which one would be best for you, as well as what it offers in terms of benefits.  The following list includes some common rhinoplasty surgeries that are available:

Rhinoplasties

This type of procedure can alter or change the shape and size of your nose by either reducing its width or increasing its height. If a person has an overly large or wide nose, this may be best suited for them so they can feel more confident about their new look!

Septorhinoplasties

This type-specific procedure changes how far apart your nostrils are on your face through reduction techniques such as cutting out excess skin from inside the nasal cavities. This usually helps out cosmetically and for people who have some breathing problems.

Open Rhinoplasty

The plastic surgeon makes incisions on the skin and cartilage to reshape your nose. Once the surgeon has full access to the nasal structure, he/she can reshape it. The approach allows room for very extensive surgery without having visible scars.

Closed Rhinoplasty

In this case, the incision is made from within and there is little scarring. Procedures such as nose jobs are carried out for minor adjustments with minimal complications like bleeding and bruising.

Secondary Rhinoplasty

If certain procedures may not have produced the desired results. A revision, also known as secondary rhinoplasty, might be necessary to achieve your goals. The process could either be open or close depending on what you’re trying to change.

Conclusion

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that can be done to improve the look of your nose. It all depends on what you want and need, but there are many types of rhinoplasties available for people with different needs. Top 5 Myths About Facial Rejuvenation

Top 5 Myths About Facial Rejuvenation

We’ve all heard of plastic surgeries and cosmetic procedures that went wrong. While in some cases this is true, most of the time these are urban legends exaggerated by pop culture. Facial rejuvenation offers many benefits to a variety of patients, young or old. Some procedures may even be medically useful. So, what are some myths associated with facial rejuvenation?

Here, we debunk the top five myths about facial rejuvenation.

1. Facial rejuvenation will instantly change my appearance

As with any medical procedure, you shouldn’t expect to see results immediately. There’s a waiting period for facial rejuvenation effects to appear. If your surgeon is skilled with years of accredited experience and exceptional outcomes, chances are your results will subtly represent your natural beauty. There’s no recovery time for facial rejuvenation treatments, such as Botox, which takes about 15-30 minutes to perform. Facial rejuvenation works its magic over time, and it can take weeks or even months to see results. The results themselves will last anywhere from 4 to 12 months, so you won’t have to revisit the doctor anytime soon.

2. Skincare products give the same results as facial rejuvenation

It’s common to see the same ingredients in over-the-counter skincare and facial rejuvenation products, but this doesn’t necessarily mean they’re doing the same thing. Since most skincare is for topical use, these ingredients aren’t injected but are instead applied directly to the skin. A good skincare regimen can promote healthy, clear skin. However, injections such as fillers offer different results since they’re being injected into the skin where the issue lies, directly altering the skin tissues in the process. Even if you regularly use these over-the-counter skincare products, they won’t provide the same facial rejuvenation results.

3. All facial rejuvenation treatments are the same

Facial rejuvenation can take different forms and make use of different techniques for a variety of purposes. For example, Botox is used to tighten muscles to reduce wrinkles and fine lines while fillers fill or remove these issues. Their ingredients and treatment plans differ, mostly depending on where and how they’re being used. These treatments are meant to target different parts of the face or various related issues. In addition, facial rejuvenation treatments such as Botox are sometimes not used for cosmetic purposes but rather for medical use. Botox can be used for patients who have chronic migraines or excessive sweating. Therefore, not only do they affect the cosmetic appearance of one’s skin differently, but they also have possible medical benefits for people suffering from certain conditions.

4. It’s obvious when someone has a facial procedure

If done correctly by an experienced and knowledgeable surgeon, your results should appear over time and in a manner that is subtle enough to avoid casual detection. Your surgeon’s job is to enhance your natural beauty and help you achieve your skincare goals, not turn you into someone you are not. Of course, botched surgeries do happen, but these are few and far between. Successful facial rejuvenation procedures should provide results in a matter of weeks or months. If you’re searching for a plastic surgeon and are concerned about your possible outcomes, research their credentials and experience, talk to them one on one, and look at their before and after photos.

5. Facial rejuvenation will stop my aging process

While halting the aging process may be ideal for some, it’s not how biology works. Everyone will age, and with that, so will their skin. However, there are techniques and procedures proven to delay the signs of aging. Facial rejuvenation, such as eye lifts, Botox, or fillers, can help diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles months after completion. While there’s no magic pill to stop aging, there are ways to help your body maintain its youth, in addition to facial rejuvenation. Taking care of yourself by avoiding smoking or heavy drinking, using a good skincare regimen, and exercising are great ways to help your body and skin stay healthy. If you’re interested in what facial rejuvenation can do for you, consult with a surgeon to review your options.

Is a facelift right for me?

Is a facelift right for me?

Find out with these 3 questions

Age brings many things: wisdom, back pain, memories, wrinkles.

Whether you have laugh lines that run a little too deep or you’re self-conscious about your sagging “turkey neck,” a facelift might help you feel more like yourself and restore your youthful appearance and vibrancy.

If you have doubts, you may be wrestling with wondering what a facelift involves, or whether you’ll be truly happy with the results. How do you know a facelift is right for you?

Here are a few questions we tell our tri-cities patients to ask themselves before deciding whether or not to get a facelift:

Are your wrinkles affecting your self-confidence?

There’s no ideal age to get a facelift. Whether or not you need a facelift depends, not on your age or wrinkles, but on your self-confidence.

● Do you look in the mirror and feel like you’re just not yourself?
● Are you frustrated that makeup, haircuts, hair coloring, and dressing differently haven’t been able to change how you look and feel?
● Do you think about your wrinkles at social events, instead of thinking about making memories?

We believe age should never stop you from enjoying time with friends and family, posing for pictures, or feeling beautiful. If wrinkles are beginning to affect your quality of life, it’s time to get a facelift.

Will you be able to schedule time for recovery?

What a facelift involves

A facelift is a simple surgical procedure: you will be given general anesthesia for 2-5 hours while your surgeon rejuvenates your facial tissues, and return home the same day (due to the effects of anesthesia, we ask our patients to find a ride home with a friend or family member rather than driving themselves).

We ask that all our Johnson City and Kingsport patients be in good health for the surgery; talk with your practitioner if you have any concerns. Certain (but not all) prescriptions may need to be stopped for two weeks leading up to the surgery; individuals prone to blood clots should not undergo a facelift.

If you are in generally good health, a facelift procedure is a simple way to return some of your natural, young look to your face.

What to expect for recovery

Because a facelift involves surgical procedures, your body will need time to recover. We recommend all tri-cities patients spend at least two weeks at home, resting, rather than returning to work or regular activities right away.

Some clients will benefit from pain medicines to reduce inflammation and related pain.

It may take up to eight weeks for clients to fully recover and return to regular activities, so we recommend scheduling this procedure during a season that will not involve large family get-togethers or major work events for several weeks.

If you are able to schedule a few weeks off for recovery, a facelift is a straightforward, quick procedure that can boost your self-confidence and rejuvenate your face.

How will you feel about the results?

What can a facelift accomplish?

A facelift can return your natural glow and erase some of time’s effects. Some results our Johnson City and Kingsport clients see with a facelift include:

● Tightening of slack and loose jowl lines
● Shrinking of deep creases and wrinkles
● Contouring of chin and neck
● Return of skin elasticity
● Toning of the neck and face

If these results are in line with the changes you’d like to make in your face, we’ll be happy to schedule you for a facelift appointment with our tri-cities professionals.

Do results vary from surgeon to surgeon?

Who your plastic surgeon is matters – if your plastic surgeon is a beginner, or does not have an eye for aesthetics, your face could come out of surgery looking unnatural, stretched, or strained. You won’t be happy with the results, and you might regret the procedure.

Dr. Brantner has been practicing for over 30 years, specializing in plastic cosmetic surgery. He takes time to talk with each patient about what they would like from their procedure, and artfully create a face you recognize when you’re done.

The Rising Popularity of Eyelid Lifts

The Rising Popularity of Eyelid Lifts

When you think of cosmetic surgery, you probably don’t think of one of our most popular procedures. Many people don’t even know it exists! This procedure is technically called blepharoplasty, but it’s commonly referred to as an eye lift. Over the last 16 years, eye lift surgery has consistently been one of the top five cosmetic procedures in the US. At the offices of Dr. Brantner in East Tennessee, eye lifts are a popular procedure for both men and women. What does the procedure involve and what could it do for you? eyelid lift

In short, an eye lift is the only procedure that effectively addresses puffy or drooping eyelids. A consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon is the only way to be sure that you’re a good candidate, but if aging, gravity, or environmental factors have obstructed your vision or given you the appearance of being sleepy or angry all the time, an eyelid lift may be your best choice.

Eye lifts generally work in one of two ways. If the lower lid is causing the issue, the surgeon will remove excess fat from beneath the eye. If the upper lid is causing vision problems or affecting your appearance, loose or hanging skin can be tightened or removed. Tightening the skin and muscles will give a fresh, rejuvenated look to the eyes, which makes the whole face look more youthful.

Want to know if a blepharoplasty is right for you? Schedule a consultation with Dr. Brantner. We can answer all your questions, discuss recovery time, and work together to choose the best options for your body and your desired outcome!

Men, Women, & Wrinkles: Non-Surgical Procedures Just For You

Men, Women, & Wrinkles: Non-Surgical Procedures Just For You

eye wrinklesResearch has shown that women tend to have more wrinkles around the mouth than men. However, men are more prone to develop wrinkles near their eyes. Just because you are prone to wrinkles doesn’t mean you have to live with them. We provide non-surgical procedures such as Juvederm and Botox that can minimize those lines that make you feel less confident.

Wrinkles & Women

There are fewer sweat glands and blood vessels around a woman’s mouth. The lack of sweat glands and blood vessels cause facial skin to have a decreased amount of elasticity. This significantly contributes to the development of smile lines. If you aren’t too keen on wrinkles around the mouth, we have non-surgical procedures that can smooth unwanted lines and restore some of the lost elasticity to the skin.

At our office, you can opt for injectable fillers such as Juvederm or fat injections. These non-surgical procedures treat the creases and wrinkles that develop around the mouth. With a Juvederm treatment, the results typically last one year. Fat injections are usually permanent.

Wrinkles & Men

Men may not develop wrinkles around the mouth as easily as women, but they do develop wrinkles around their eyes and forehead. These wrinkles are the result of frowning, concentrating, or squinting for many years. Thankfully, we have a non-surgical procedure that can help: Botox!

Botox isn’t just for women. It’s a safe solution for the treatment of wrinkles near the eyes and forehead, and it’s growing in popularity with men who want a subtle refresh of their appearance. Botox lasts roughly four months. After several treatments, the effects of the injection become more effective and last for longer periods of time.
