May Special: 15% Off Botox and Juvederm!

Dr. Brantner has a new special for the month of May–15% off botox, juvederm voluma, and juvederm smiling womanvolbella! These non-surgical procedures may be similar, but they provide patients with different results. Let’s take a look at what these injections do!

Botox, perhaps the most well-known of non-surgical cosmetic procedures, is primarily used to improve the appearance of frown lines. This procedure is designed to help smooth out wrinkles between the eyebrows, crow’s feet around the eyes, and forehead wrinkles. An injection usually lasts about three months, but after regular injections, results begin to last longer. Botox is also FDA approved to treat migraine headaches.

Juvederm is primarily used to treat smile lines, which look like parenthesis that open around the mouth. It is also used to fill in scars and hollow places in the face. Juvederm voluma is used to add volume and lift cheeks, while Juvederm volbella is used to plump, smooth, and augment the lips, to correct smoker’s lines, and to fill in scars and hollow places in the face, including acne scars. These treatments usually last about a year.

At Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, patients can be sure they’re getting the best quality cosmetic surgery and non-surgical procedures in East Tennessee. We take patient care very seriously. What Are Fillers?

What Are Fillers?

Your goal is simple: achieve a fuller, more youthful face. But with treatment options ranging from Botox to chemical peels to facelifts, it can be challenging to choose the right treatment for your needs. We’re breaking down the basics about one of our most popular nonsurgical treatments: derma fillers.

So what are fillers, anyway?

Derma Fillers

injectable fillerAs people age, their skin begins to lose that youthful glow. This is due to both external stresses and the skin’s natural decrease of collagen and elastin production. Skin cells become thinner, drier, and less elastic, causing the formation of wrinkles. Outside stresses like sun exposure, smoking, and a poor diet can speed the aging process. Derma fillers replenish hydraulic acid, a naturally-occurring element in the skin that helps cells retain moisture. When hydraulic acid is injected into specific areas of the face, it smooths wrinkles and creates a fuller, more youthful appearance. Derma fillers like Juvederm target fine lines and wrinkles on the face, while fillers like Restylane Silk are more commonly used to plump areas that have lost volume over time, such as the lips.

Preparing for Facial Fillers

Derma fillers are a quick, low-risk procedure with results that can last over a year. The procedure itself takes less than an hour and has minimal recovery (some patients experience slight bruising or swelling). The goal of derma fillers is to subtly enhance natural beauty, leaving friends to say, “Wow, you look great today! What’s different?” To prepare for your injectable fillers appointment:

  • Follow all instructions given by Dr. Brantner
  • Keep the office staff updated on your current health and medications
  • Stop taking NSAIDS, Aspirin, excessive Vitamin E, and St. John’s Wart for 2 weeks prior to your appointment
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 before your appointment

Botox FAQs

  • syringeDoes Botox hurt? The needles used in Botox injections are small, so most patients feel no more than a small pinch. If you’re worried about pain, Dr. Brantner can administer a topical numbing cream to the injection site.
  • How long will the appointment last? Botox treatments typically take no longer than 10-15 minutes.
  • What’s the recovery like? Botox recovery is minimal. Some patients may notice a small bump on the injection site. You may also experience slight bruising. For the best results, don’t lie down for 3 hours following a Botox treatment and avoid strenuous activity for 24 hours.
  • How long before I see results? Results are typically visible within 24-48 hours and typically last several months.
  • How can I make my results last longer? Botox is a temporary treatment that targets the muscles of the face to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Do You Love Your Lips?

Do You Love Your Lips?

In the world of camera phones and social media, selfies are on the rise. People spend more time looking at their faces, and a growing number of patients focus on one target area: the lips. Whether you like puckering up for the camera, duckfacing on Facebook, or you’re simply looking for the smile of your dreams, lip augmentation procedures can help you achieve the look you want.

Loving Your Lips

woman with full lips smilingLip augmentation is the second fastest growing cosmetic procedure in the United States. And it’s not just for female patients. Last year plastic surgeons performed a total of 27,449 lip augmentation procedures (that’s one every 19 minutes). And statistics show that men are becoming more and more comfortable with maintaining their appearance with the use of injectable fillers and cosmetic surgery. Scheduling a lip augmentation or lip injection allows men and women to subtly alter the appearance of their face. It’s popular for younger patients seeking a plumper mouth, as well as for older patients who want to look more youthful, but are not ready to commit to facelift surgery.

Lip Augmentations vs. Fillers

Injectible fillers have been a popular lip treatment for several years now, giving patients a temporary boost in the fullness of their lips. While the temporary nature of injections is a draw for some, other patients are happy with their new lips, but dislike the maintenance of their new look. For those patients, lip augmentations make an appealing solution. Lip augmentations, much like breast implants, are a safe, permanent, but reversible cosmetic procedure. Lip implants are made from soft, flexible silicone. Newer implants come in a variety of sizes, allowing the patient to choose one that will fit the shape and symmetry of their face. Lip augmentation procedures have minimal recovery time, with minimal bruising and only a few stitches to heal. As with any other cosmetic surgery procedure, it’s important to find a board certified plastic surgeon to perform the procedure.

Full Lips

The Quest for Lush Lips

The Quest for Lush Lips

The quest for a prettier pout is nothing new. Women have sought plumper, fuller lips for centuries, using makeup and natural plumpers to achieve a more vital, youthful look. Though early 20th century lip injections were unsuccessful, today they’re a simple, low-risk path to achieving a fuller mouth.

Cosmetic Lip Augmentation

full lipsSome people were born with thin lips, or may feel that their mouths look off-balance with their full cheeks or wide jaw. And as men and women age, their lips often begin to thin, all but disappearing when they smile. For people who are unhappy with the appearance of their lips, lip augmentation is an attractive solution. From the old fixation on Angelina Jolie to Scarlett Johansson’s more natural smile, lip injections help men and women achieve plump-looking lips.

About Lip Augmentation

If you want full, natural lips, a lip augmentation may be right for you. Lip augmentation is a minimally invasive procedure, with recovery typically only taking a several days. Lip augmentation can be temporary or permanent based on the type of injection used. Restylane is an injectable gel that adds fullness and volume to the lips for up to 6 months. Juvederm fillers last 9 months to a year per injection. For a more permanent solution, patients can get fat transfer injections. Because the injections come from their own tissue, it will not be absorbed in the same way as an injectable filler. Some women may need occasional touch ups to achieve and maintain the desired results.

4 Myths about Botox

4 Myths about Botox

Botox is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments, offering men and women a less permanent solution to wrinkles and signs of aging. But like any other procedure, there’s a lot of misinformation about Botox out there. We’re dispelling the rumors by debunking these common Botox myths.

Myth #1: Botox Makes You Look Fake

Comedies like to use Botox gags for cheap laughs, but the picture they paint is far from the truth. Botox relaxes the muscles at the injection site, which may smooth a furrowed brow, but still allows for a normal range of facial expressions.

Myth # 2: You Should Wait Until Lines Appear

Preventative Botox treatments have become more common in recent years. By getting Botox before lines and wrinkles begin to form, patients can get ahead of deep grooves to lessen the appearance of aging. You can even train your muscles not to make certain facial expressions that may create wrinkles as you age.

Myth #3: Anyone Can Inject Botox

Botox parties are popping up across the country, and many men and women are facing the consequences of their blasé attitudes toward these cosmetic procedures. Botox injections are a safe, well-tested nonsurgical solution, but they can lead to complications when performed by an untrained hand. Always research the facility and the physician before getting injectable fillers.

Myth #4: Botox Is Just for Women

male patient getting botox injectionIt’s becoming more acceptable for men to care about how they look, and a lot of guys are jumping on the opportunity. Botox injections can help men feel more confident at work, in relationships, and in their daily lives. And it’s not just for over-fifties. Men of all ages have experienced the boost in confidence of this nonsurgical cosmetic procedure.

Botox can smooth the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, taking years off your appearance. To determine if Botox is right for you, schedule a consultation with Dr. Brantner at Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
